For some risograph machines, you can use increments of 0.1 mm to move the drums if you turn on Fine Adjust Mode. Without fine adjust mode on, the drum moves in 0.5 mm increments. (If you are using inches; you can set your machine to use metric instead for more accurate results—the riso is moving infractions of millimeters and rounding to the nearest 64th when in imperial mode.)

This works well if you’re registering with a magnifying loupe. This loupe is an example of features that work well to let you measure your print to determine how much to move the alignment: it has a reticule with 0.1 mm marks and is USB-C rechargeable LEDs.

Enabling fine adjust mode

By default the menu option for "Fine Adjust Mode" is disabled—when enabled from test mode it will appear in the "Functions" menu. This only needs to be done once.

While the machine is OFF, press and hold the left and right print position buttons (for the first drum on two-drum machines) and turn the machine ON (while holding buttons) to enter TEST MODE.
Within test mode run 168, “Fine Adjustment Button Display Control” and change the value to 1 to enable the button (press 168 and hit START, then press 1 and hit START again).
- If running 168 does nothing and does not display a value, it's likely that fine adjust mode is not available on this machine.
This will return to the main screen of test mode—turn the machine OFF, then back on again in regular mode.
This should have added a new “Fine Adjust Mode” button to the "Functions" tab (search for it to confirm it is there).

How to use Fine Adjust Mode while printing

Go into the Functions menu and turn on Fine Adjust Mode in that menu. (While in regular printing mode—not Test Mode anymore.)
Hit it to turn on, just like turning on Interval.
Now it should switch to mm and each button push will be 0.1mm (if fine adjust mode is off, each button push will be 0.5mm). Print and register your prints with more ease.
If machine supports it, add Fine Adjust Mode to one of the shortcut buttons that shows up on the main screen so it is always accessible. (Without going into functions menu.)

You need to turn on Fine Adjust Mode each time you want to use it. Regular movements are in 0.5mm and that is often what you want to do first, so you can get the big adjustments done first and then dial it in with fine adjust.
