By default the print positioning buttons will move the printed image in increments of 0.5 mm. Fine adjust mode allows changes of 0.1 mm instead, allowing for finer fidelity in registration. This mode is only possible on some machines (all two-drum machines should have it, as should Riso RZ logo990 and Riso SF logo9490 models—other models with four-button positioning and a touch screen display may have it as an option).

This works well when registering with a magnifying loupe. The Landtek 10× Jeweler's Loupe, for example, has a reticule with 0.1 mm marks and USB-C rechargeable LEDs, allowing precise measurement of how much to move the print.[1]

Enabling fine adjust mode

By default the menu option for "Fine Adjust Mode" is disabled—when enabled from test mode it will appear in the "Functions" menu. This only needs to be done once.

  1. While the machine is OFF, press and hold the left and right print position buttons (for the first drum on two-drum machines) and turn the machine ON (while holding buttons) to enter TEST MODE.
  2. Run test code 168, “Fine Adjustment Button Display Control” and change the value to 1 to enable the button.
    • Press 168 and hit START, then press 1 and hit START again.
    • If running 168 does nothing and does not display a value, it's likely that fine adjust mode is not available on this machine.
  3. This will return to the main screen of test mode—turn the machine OFF, then back on again in regular mode.
  4. This should have added a new “Fine Adjust Mode” button to the "Functions" tab (search for it to confirm it is there).

Optimizations

  • If machine supports it, add Fine Adjust Mode to one of the shortcut buttons that shows up on the main screen so it is easily accessible.
  • If the machine is set to inches it can be changed to use metric instead for more accurate results (the riso is always moving in fractions of millimeters, when in inches mode it just rounds to the nearest 64th for display).

How to use fine adjust mode while printing

  1. After making stencils, first get rough registration by using the print position buttons with their standard 0.5 mm increments.
  2. Next to dial in the registration, go into the "Functions" tab and find "Fine Adjust Mode" in that menu.
  3. Tap this button to turn on, just like turning on interval mode (the button will light up when enabled).
  4. Now each button push will be 0.1 mm.

Fine adjust mode needs to be toggled on each time it is used.
